What Types of Tablets Are Suitable for Different Types of Tablet Presses To Produce?

Due to differences in core characteristics such as structural design, compression principle, production efficiency, and pressure accuracy, different types of tablet presses have significant differences in applicable tablet types (such as shape, specifications, production requirements, and process complexity). Starting from the most common types of tablet presses in industrial production, combined with their core characteristics and applicable scenarios, this article systematically sorts out the types of tablets that are compatible with various equipment:

1.Single stamping machine: preferred core features for small batch, laboratory/trial production scenarios

Simple structure: only one set of stamping dies (upper punch, lower punch, die ring), driven manually or electrically, capable of pressing one tablet at a time; Extremely low production: usually ≤ 60 pieces/minute, unable to meet industrial mass production requirements;

Flexible operation: The die replacement is convenient, and the pressure and thickness can be quickly adjusted, suitable for process debugging.

Applicable tablet types: laboratory research and development/small trial samples, small-scale customized tablets, irregular/special specification trial production

2.Rotary tablet press: The "main equipment" for industrial mass production. 

Rotary tablet press is the core equipment for mass production of tablets in the pharmaceutical, food, and health product industries. It can be further subdivided according to the number of stamping dies (output) and structure, and is suitable for most conventional tablets.

1）Ordinary rotary tablet press (multi punch, medium low speed)

Core features: 10-30 sets of stamping dies are configured on the turntable, with low rotation speed and a production capacity of 5000-30000 pieces per minute; Moderate pressure stability, suitable for conventional tablet production

Applicable tablet types: regular round tablets, medium size tablets, food/health product tablets

2）High speed rotary tablet press

Core features: 30-70 sets of rotary die, high speed, and a production capacity of 30000-120000 pieces per minute; High precision pressure control (equipped with automatic pressure feedback system), fully automated feeding, tablet pressing, and dispensing, suitable for large-scale continuous production

Applicable tablet types: high-yield conventional tablets, standardized tablets with uniform specifications, tablets with high pressure stability requirements

3）Dual color/multi-layer rotary tablet press

Core features: Equipped with 2 or more feeding hoppers, it can achieve "synchronous pressing" (such as dual color layering, three-layer composite), special die design (can accommodate multi-component materials), and pressure control needs to match the compression characteristics of different materials.

Applicable tablet types: dual color tablets, multi-layer sustained-release/controlled release tablets, functional zoning tablets
